Report and Photo's from this fund raising BBQ
Despite a poor weather forecast a good crowd from the Heaton Moor United Reform Church turned out to this BBQ and were blessed with good weather. An enjoyable afternoon and evening was had by all.
A running slide show of the OTF's Drop in the Ocean Humanitarian Aid Trip 2008 was on display giving an insite to the family the members of the HMURC had helped under the Adopt a Family Scheme used for the first time for last years aid trip.
The HMURC were the first group to 'adopt' a family - not only did they adopt a family they adpoted the largest family on our book - 16 members.
The slide show had pictures of the boxes of basic humanitarian aid they had collected and packed being delivered to their family in the village of Danes, Transylvania.

Report and Photo's from the Castle Carr Event
Sunday 5th July 2009
Well, after much watching of the weather forecasts and sky watching we could not have hoped for, and got, better weather for this very popular event.
More than 450 of you turned up by car or on foot to be captivated by the beauty and tranquility of this hidden gem called Castle Carr.
After a small technical hitch, professionally dealt with by that nice man from Yorkshire Water who gave up his own time with no pay to help, the valve was turned and, to the delight of the huge crowd that had gathered on the banking, the magnificant fountain sputtered, spewed and rose up magestically into the air giving those who were lucky to be watching the sight of the highest, gravity fed fountain in the UK.
The spectators cheered and clapped as they watched the water shooting up into the sky then falling back in a net curtain of spray.
After ten or fifteen minutes the water ebbed away but the sight of the fountain will remain with those present for weeks to come.
With gentle walk to the ruins of the once stately Castle Carr and with the sun shining through the blue skies it was the best of endings to the best of days.
A few thanks should be given:
To the Scholefield family in giving their kind permission for this charity fund raising event.
To David Cant and Clive Lloyd for sharing with us their vast knowledge of the Castle Carr Estate.
To Simon, the Yorkshire Water Engineer, for his skilled attention and 'turning on' the fountain. The YW engineer freely gave up his own time, unpaid, to help at this event.
To Farnell Land Rover of Guisley, Leeds for their assistance in loaning a Freelander II for the event. The availability of this vehicle made it possible for many visitors of more senior years or those who had difficulties getting up and down the steep wooded track, to be able to see the fountain close to.
And finally to all those who attended at the event and supported the Oak Tree Foundation and Cragg Vale Historic Society.
We are aware that some of you missed out on the free brochure about Castle Carr which was given out at the event.
We hope within the next 7 days to have available on line from this web site that very same brochure which you are welcome to print off. Please visit NEWS page for CASTLE CARR BROCHURE

The reason for holding this fund raising event.
To help the poor, sick and needy children such as this in Romania.
This photograph was only taken in November last year and shows a young, wild and filthy Romanian girl in the rural village of Danes, Transylvania.
Thank you for your support in helping us help them.
Together we are making a difference!
